Terms of membership
The agreement between you and the association.
By becoming a member you agree to these terms. They are short by design, and written in the plainest English we could manage.
Version 1.0.0In force from 1 August 2026
Membership
Membership of the association is open to any person who studied at Northgate, at any point, for any length of time. Applications are reviewed by the committee. Membership is granted by the committee, is personal to the member, and is not transferable.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for any activity carried out under your account. Notify us at once if you suspect unauthorised access. We do not require you to share your password with anyone under any circumstances.
Conduct
You agree to use the association's directory and services in a manner consistent with its purposes. You will not:
- use the directory as a mailing list or lead source for commercial purposes not agreed by the committee;
- harvest, scrape or bulk-download member data;
- impersonate another member or misrepresent your identity;
- post content that is unlawful, defamatory, or that a reasonable person would find harassing.
Content you post
You retain ownership of anything you post. You grant the association a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce, display, and distribute it within the association's own services for the purpose of running them. That licence ends when you delete the content, save for archival copies necessary for audit.
Subscriptions and fees
Membership tiers, their fees and their benefits are published on the pricing page. Fees are payable in advance; refunds are governed by the refund policy. The association may change fees on ninety days' notice.
Suspension and termination
The committee may suspend or terminate a membership where a member has materially breached these terms, and does so under the safeguarding and complaints procedure. A suspended member is entitled to a written explanation and to appeal to the Board of Trustees within thirty days.
Limitation of liability
The association provides its services on an "as is" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law the association is not liable for any loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill arising from your use of the services. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
A material change bumps the version above and, on next sign-in, asks every member to accept the updated terms. The previous versions are archived and available on request.
